Ever since Iraq invaded Kuwait, people have been asking me
about the biblical implications of the conflict. In order to have
some answers, I did a computer search of references in the Bible to
what is now Iraq.
    What follows is some background from my studies and a list of
references. This is not an authoritative dissertation from an
expert historian or a recognized biblical scholar. And I’m not
providing any conclusions. I’m just providing the information. It’s
just what I’ve found out. I’ve uploaded it in the hopes that it
will satisfy your curiosity or pique your interest.

BACKGROUND:
    At different times in biblical history, what is now known as
Iraq was part of the Old Babylonian Empire, the Assyrian Empire,
the Babylonian Empire and the Parthian Empire before becoming part
of the Roman Empire. In Old Testament times, the region was known
as Babylonia. In New Testament times, Iraq was considered part of
Mesopotamia.

Babylon:

    The Bible says Babylon (about 55 miles south of present-day
Baghdad) was founded by Nimrod:
    GEN 10:8-11 Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a
mighty warrior on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the
LORD; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before
the LORD.” The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Erech,
Akkad and Calneh, in Shinar. From that land he went to Assyria,
where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah.
    Shortly thereafter the cities began to war. Hammurabi came to
the throne in 1728-1686 B.C. He conquered much of the surrounding
territory and started the first Babylonian Empire. The Assyrians
took over in 729 B.C. Babylon reached its peak in the reign of
Nebuchadnezzar (605-562 B.C.). This Babylon included the Hanging
Gardens, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. This
Babylon also destroyed Jerusalem and took Israel captive, although
a succession of Babylonian rulers completed the captivity. A few
evil, stupid rulers followed Nebuchadnezzar, and the empire fell to
Cyrus of Persia, now Iran, in 539 B.C. Alexander the Great, the
Parthians, the Romans and the Sassanian Dynasty controlled Babylon
until 641 A.D. when Moslem Arabs took over.

Assyria:
    Assyria was a mighty empire that dominated the Middle East
from the 9th to the 7th century B.C. The boundary between Assyria
and Babylonia was very unstable. It moved farther into Assyria when
the Babylonians were more powerful. And it moved farther into
Babylonia when the Assyrians were more powerful. It was usually
within what we now call Iraq.
    The Assyrians came to dominate the civilized world through an
alliance with the Babylonians. Assyria and Babylonia were always
sort of an Asyro-Babylonia. They were populated by one race of
Semitic people, although Babylonians intermarried with other races
more. They spoke the same language and shared the same polytheistic
religion
    Tiglath-Pileser III came to power in 745 B.C. and overran
Israel, starting the first captivity. Later Assyrian and Babylonian
monarchs continued to take the jews captive. Nineveh was one of the
larger cities in Assyria.
    The captivity was a punishment from God for disobeying him,
worshipping the gods of the Canaanites and following their
practices:
    2KI 17:6-30 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria
captured Samaria and deported the Israelites to Assyria. He settled
them in Halah, in Gozan on the Habor River and in the towns of the
Medes. All this took place because the Israelites had sinned
against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of Egypt
from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshiped other
gods and followed the practices of the nations the LORD had driven
out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel
had introduced. … Therefore the LORD rejected all the people of
Israel; he afflicted them and gave them into the hands of
plunderers, until he thrust them from his presence. … until the
LORD removed them from his presence, as he had warned through all
his servants the prophets. So the people of Israel were taken from
their homeland into exile in Assyria, and they are still there.

Nebuchadnezzar:
    Nebuchadnezzar was a king of Babylon when the Assyrian power
was fading. He was a Chaldean. Chaldea also is part of Iraq. By
marrying the daughter of a northern kingdom and through savvy
military campaigns, Nebuchadnezzar cut out a vast empire, the
Neo-Babylonian Empire, by 604 B.C. In 587 B.C., after a siege of a
18 months, Nebuchadnezzar took Jerusalem and took most of its
inhabitants into captivity and back to Babylon.
    Nebuchadnezzar was not an Arab and attacked the Arabs (Jer.
49:28-33). Nevertheless, Saddam Hussein has said he is the new
Nebuchadnezzar.
    Nebuchadnezzar spent most of his time and effort building
Babylon into the great city and building the hanging gardens, his
temple and ziggurat.
    Nebuchadnezzar said: “Is not this the great Babylon I have
built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory
of my majesty?” DAN 4:30
    It was an attitude that got him into trouble:
    DAN 4:18-37 “This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar,
had. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me what it means, for none of the wise
men in my kingdom can interpret it for me. But you can, because the
spirit of the holy gods is in you.”
    Then Daniel (also called Belteshazzar) was greatly perplexed
for a time, and his thoughts terrified him. So the king said,
“Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its meaning alarm you.”
    Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, if only the dream applied to
your enemies and its meaning to your adversaries! The tree you saw,
which grew large and strong, with its top touching the sky, visible
to the whole earth, with beautiful leaves and abundant fruit,
providing food for all, giving shelter to the beasts of the field,
and having nesting places in its branches for the birds of the
air– you, O king, are that tree! You have become great and strong;
your greatness has grown until it reaches the sky, and your
dominion extends to distant parts of the earth.
    “You, O king, saw a messenger, a holy one, coming down from
heaven and saying, ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the
stump, bound with iron and bronze, in the grass of the field, while
its roots remain in the ground. Let him be drenched with the dew of
heaven; let him live like the wild animals, until seven times pass
by for him.’
    “This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree
the Most High has issued against my lord the king: You will be
driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you
will eat grass like cattle and be drenched with the dew of heaven.
Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the
Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to
anyone he wishes. The command to leave the stump of the tree with
its roots means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you
acknowledge that Heaven rules. Therefore, O king, be pleased to
accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and
your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then
your prosperity will continue.”    All this happened to King
Nebuchadnezzar. Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the
roof of the royal palace of Babylon, he said, “Is not this the
great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty
power and for the glory of my majesty?”
    The words were still on his lips when a voice came from
heaven, “This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your
royal authority has been taken from you. You will be driven away
from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass
like cattle. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge
that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives
them to anyone he wishes.”
    Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was
fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like
cattle. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair
grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of
a bird.
    At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes
toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most
High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion
is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to
generation. All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing.
He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of
the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: “What have
you done?”
    At the same time that my sanity was restored, my honor and
splendor were returned to me for the glory of my kingdom. My
advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored to my throne
and became even greater than before. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise
and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he
does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in
pride he is able to humble.
    A descendant of Nebuchadnezzar, King Belshazzar, received the
same kind of message from the Lord and did not heed it. He died the
next night.
    Saddam Hussein has been rebuilding Babylon and fancies himself
a new Nebuchadnezzar. Will he end up as Nebuchadnezzar or
Belshazzar?

Prophecies on Babylon:
    Babylon got its name from the Tower of Babel, which was built
there. The city is used in prophecy to refer to the confusion
resulting from turning away from God, as the builders of the tower
did.
    GEN 11:9 That is why it was called Babel–because there the
LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD
scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
    I think Babylon represents the plan of man as opposed to the
plan of God. Man’s religion as opposed to God’s, man’s government
as opposed to God’s. Whereas God’s plan is orderly and peaceful and
perfect, man’s is simply screwed up, disorderly, violent and
confused – babel. The best that man could do in challenging God as
in building the Tower of Babel.

    In Revelation and other prophecies of Armageddon, Babylon is
referred to as the great city and the great prostitute. REV. 17:5
    There also is the ecclesiastical Babylon, the Great
Prostitute. This is apostate Christendom, churches that have led
peoples and rulers away from God and actually persecuted true
Christians – REV. 17-6. Man’s religion as opposed to God.
    There also is political Babylon. The prostitute rides
political Babylon, a beast, for a while, but the beast kills the
prostitute so that the beast alone is worshipped.
    In the Book of Revelation, Babylon rises up and a great group
of nations (the beast) defeats her. Christ and his armies then
defeat the beast in the battle of Armageddon.

    Political Babylon is destroyed by Christ at Armageddon:
    REV. 16:14-19 They are spirits of demons performing miraculous
signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather
them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty. “Behold, I
come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his
clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully
exposed.” Then they gathered the kings together to the place that
in Hebrew is called Armageddon. The seventh angel poured out his
bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the
throne, saying, “It is done!” Then there came flashes of lightning,
rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake
like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so
tremendous was the quake. The great city split into three parts,
and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the
Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his
wrath.

    This complete account of the destruction of Babylon is given
in REV 17:3-19:4.
    Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a desert.
There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered
with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. The woman
was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold,
precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand,
filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. This
title was written on her forehead: MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT THE
MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. I saw
that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of
those who bore testimony to Jesus.
  When I saw her, I was greatly astonished. Then the angel said to
me: “Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery of
the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and
ten horns. The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and will
come up out of the Abyss and go to his destruction. The inhabitants
of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life
from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the
beast, because he once was, now is not, and yet will come.
  “This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven
hills on which the woman sits. They are also seven kings. Five have
fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come,
he must remain for a little while. The beast who once was, and now
is not, is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to
his destruction.
  “The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received
a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings
along with the beast. They have one purpose and will give their
power and authority to the beast. They will make war against the
Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords
and King of kings–and with him will be his called, chosen and
faithful followers.”
  Then the angel said to me, “The waters you saw, where the
prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages.
The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They
will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh
and burn her with fire. For God has put it into their hearts to
accomplish his purpose by agreeing to give the beast their power to
rule, until God’s words are fulfilled. The woman you saw is the
great city that rules over the kings of the earth.”
  After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had
great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor.
With a mighty voice he shouted: “Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the
Great! She has become a home for demons and a haunt for every evil
spirit, a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird. For all the
nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries. The kings
of the earth committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the
earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.”
  Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Come out of her, my
people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will
not receive any of her plagues; for her sins are piled up to
heaven, and God has remembered her crimes. Give back to her as she
has given; pay her back double for what she has done. Mix her a
double portion from her own cup. Give her as much torture and grief
as the glory and luxury she gave herself. In her heart she boasts,
‘I sit as queen; I am not a widow, and I will never mourn.’
Therefore in one day her plagues will overtake her: death, mourning
and famine. She will be consumed by fire, for mighty is the Lord
God who judges her.
  “When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her and
shared her luxury see the smoke of her burning, they will weep and
mourn over her. Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off
and cry: “‘Woe! Woe, O great city, O Babylon, city of power! In one
hour your doom has come!’
  “The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her because
no one buys their cargoes any more– cargoes of gold, silver,
precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet
cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made
of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble; cargoes of cinnamon
and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive
oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and
carriages; and bodies and souls of men.
  “They will say, ‘The fruit you longed for is gone from you. All
your riches and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.’ The
merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her
will stand far off, terrified at her torment. They will weep and
mourn and cry out: “‘Woe! Woe, O great city, dressed in fine linen,
purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones and
pearls! In one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin!’
“Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and
all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off. When
they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, ‘Was there
ever a city like this great city?’ They will throw dust on their
heads, and with weeping and mourning cry out: “‘Woe! Woe, O great
city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her
wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin! Rejoice over her,
O heaven! Rejoice, saints and apostles and prophets! God has judged
her for the way she treated you.'”
  Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large
millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: “With such violence
the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found
again. The music of harpists and musicians, flute players and
trumpeters, will never be heard in you again. No workman of any
trade will ever be found in you again. The sound of a millstone
will never be heard in you again. The light of a lamp will never
shine in you again. The voice of bridegroom and bride will never be
heard in you again. Your merchants were the world’s great men. By
your magic spell all the nations were led astray. In her was found
the blood of prophets and of the saints, and of all who have been
killed on the earth.”
  After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great
multitude in heaven shouting: “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and
power belong to our God, for true and just are his judgments. He
has condemned the great prostitute who corrupted the earth by her
adulteries. He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
  And again they shouted: “Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up
for ever and ever.”
  The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down
and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:
“Amen, Hallelujah!”

Avva, Hamath and Sepharvaim and settled them in the towns of
Samaria to replace the Israelites. They took over Samaria and lived
in its towns.
  2KI 17:30 The men from Babylon made Succoth Benoth, the men from
Cuthah made Nergal, and the men from Hamath made Ashima;
  2KI 20:12 At that time Merodach-Baladan son of Baladan king of
Babylon sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of
Hezekiah’s illness.
  2KI 20:14 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and
asked, “What did those men say, and where did they come from?”
“From a distant land,” Hezekiah replied. “They came from Babylon.”
  2KI 20:17 The time will surely come when everything in your
palace, and all that your fathers have stored up until this day,
will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the
LORD.
  2KI 20:18 And some of your descendants, your own flesh and
blood, that will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will
become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
  2KI 24:1 During Jehoiakim’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar king of
Babylon invaded the land, and Jehoiakim became his vassal for three
years. But then he changed his mind and rebelled against
Nebuchadnezzar.
  2KI 24:2 The LORD sent Babylonian, Aramean, Moabite and Ammonite
raiders against him. He sent them to destroy Judah, in accordance
with the word of the LORD proclaimed by his servants the prophets.
  2KI 24:7 The king of Egypt did not march out from his own
country again, because the king of Babylon had taken all his
territory, from the Wadi of Egypt to the Euphrates River.
  2KI 24:10 At that time the officers of Nebuchadnezzar king of
Babylon advanced on Jerusalem and laid siege to it,
  2KI 24:12 Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his attendants,
his nobles and his officials all surrendered to him. In the eighth
year of the reign of the king of Babylon, he took Jehoiachin
prisoner.
  2KI 24:15 Nebuchadnezzar took Jehoiachin captive to Babylon. He
also took from Jerusalem to Babylon the king’s mother, his wives,
his officials and the leading men of the land.
  2KI 24:16 The king of Babylon also deported to Babylon the
entire force of seven thousand fighting men, strong and fit for
war, and a thousand craftsmen and artisans.
  2KI 24:20 It was because of the LORD’S anger that all this
happened to Jerusalem and Judah, and in the end he thrust them from
his presence. Now Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. 
  2KI 25:1 So in the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth
day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched
against Jerusalem with his whole army. He encamped outside the city
and built siege works all around it.
  2KI 25:4 Then the city wall was broken through, and the whole
army fled at night through the gate between the two walls near the
king’s garden, though the Babylonians were surrounding the city.
They fled toward the Arabah,
  2KI 25:5 but the Babylonian army pursued the king and overtook
him in the plains of Jericho. All his soldiers were separated from
him and scattered,
  2KI 25:6 and he was captured. He was taken to the king of
Babylon at Riblah, where sentence was pronounced on him.  2KI 25:7
They killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes. Then they put out
his eyes, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon.
  2KI 25:8 On the seventh day of the fifth month, in the
nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan
commander of the imperial guard, an official of the king of
Babylon, came to Jerusalem.
  2KI 25:10 The whole Babylonian army, under the commander of the
imperial guard, broke down the walls around Jerusalem.
  2KI 25:11 Nebuzaradan the commander of the guard carried into
exile the people who remained in the city, along with the rest of
the populace and those who had gone over to the king of Babylon. 
  2KI 25:13 The Babylonians broke up the bronze pillars, the
movable stands and the bronze Sea that were at the temple of the
LORD and they carried the bronze to Babylon.
  2KI 25:20 Nebuzaradan the commander took them all and brought
them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.
  2KI 25:22 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon appointed Gedaliah son
of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to be over the people he had left
behind in Judah.
  2KI 25:23 When all the army officers and their men heard that
the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah as governor, they came
to Gedaliah at Mizpah–Ishmael son of Nethaniah, Johanan son of
Kareah, Seraiah son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, Jaazaniah the
son of the Maacathite, and their men.
  2KI 25:24 Gedaliah took an oath to reassure them and their men.
“Do not be afraid of the Babylonian officials,” he said. “Settle
down in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will go well
with you.”
  2KI 25:25 In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of
Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, who was of royal blood, came with
ten men and assassinated Gedaliah and also the men of Judah and the
Babylonians who were with him at Mizpah.
  2KI 25:26 At this, all the people from the least to the
greatest, together with the army officers, fled to Egypt for fear
of the Babylonians.
  2KI 25:27 In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin
king of Judah, in the year Evil-Merodach became king of Babylon, he
released Jehoiachin from prison on the twenty-seventh day of the
twelfth month.
  2KI 25:28 He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor
higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon.
  1CH 9:1 All Israel was listed in the genealogies recorded in the
book of the kings of Israel. The people of Judah were taken captive
to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
  2CH 32:31 But when envoys were sent by the rulers of Babylon to
ask him about the miraculous sign that had occurred in the land,
God left him to test him and to know everything that was in his
heart.
  2CH 33:11 So the LORD brought against them the army commanders
of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh prisoner, put a hook in
his nose, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon.
  2CH 36:6 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked him and bound
him with bronze shackles to take him to Babylon.
  2CH 36:7 Nebuchadnezzar also took to Babylon articles from the
temple of the LORD and put them in his temple there.
  2CH 36:10 In the spring, King Nebuchadnezzar sent for him and
brought him to Babylon, together with articles of value from the
temple of the LORD, and he made Jehoiachin’s uncle, Zedekiah, king
over Judah and Jerusalem.
  2CH 36:17 He brought up against them the king of the
Babylonians, who killed their young men with the sword in the
sanctuary, and spared neither young man nor young woman, old man or
aged. God handed all of them over to Nebuchadnezzar.
  2CH 36:18 He carried to Babylon all the articles from the temple
of God, both large and small, and the treasures of the LORD’S
temple and the treasures of the king and his officials.
  2CH 36:20 He carried into exile to Babylon the remnant, who
escaped from the sword, and they became servants to him and his
sons until the kingdom of Persia came to power.
  EZR 1:11 In all, there were 5,400 articles of gold and of
silver. Sheshbazzar brought all these along when the exiles came up
from Babylon to Jerusalem.
  EZR 2:1 Now these are the people of the province who came up
from the captivity of the exiles, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of
Babylon had taken captive to Babylon (they returned to Jerusalem
and Judah, each to his own town,
  EZR 4:9 Rehum the commanding officer and Shimshai the secretary,
together with the rest of their associates–the judges and
officials over the men from Tripolis, Persia, Erech and Babylon,
the Elamites of Susa,
  EZR 5:12 But because our fathers angered the God of heaven, he
handed them over to Nebuchadnezzar the Chaldean, king of Babylon,
who destroyed this temple and deported the people to Babylon.
  EZR 5:13 “However, in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon,
King Cyrus issued a decree to rebuild this house of God.
  EZR 5:14 He even removed from the temple of Babylon the gold and
silver articles of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar had taken
from the temple in Jerusalem and brought to the temple in Babylon.
“Then King Cyrus gave them to a man named Sheshbazzar, whom he had
appointed governor,
  EZR 5:17 Now if it pleases the king, let a search be made in the
royal archives of Babylon to see if King Cyrus did in fact issue a
decree to rebuild this house of God in Jerusalem. Then let the king
send us his decision in this matter.
  EZR 6:1 King Darius then issued an order, and they searched in
the archives stored in the treasury at Babylon.
  EZR 6:5 Also, the gold and silver articles of the house of God,
which Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple in Jerusalem and brought
to Babylon, are to be returned to their places in the temple in
Jerusalem; they are to be deposited in the house of God.
  EZR 7:6 this Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a teacher well
versed in the Law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had
given. The king had granted him everything he asked, for the hand
of the LORD his God was on him.
  EZR 7:9 He had begun his journey from Babylon on the first day
of the first month, and he arrived in Jerusalem on the first day of
the fifth month, for the gracious hand of his God was on him.
  EZR 7:16 together with all the silver and gold you may obtain
from the province of Babylon, as well as the freewill offerings of
the people and priests for the temple of their God in Jerusalem.
  EZR 8:1 These are the family heads and those registered with
them who came up with me from Babylon during the reign of King
Artaxerxes:

Babylonians’ pride, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and
Gomorrah.

Babylon: How the oppressor has come to an end! How his fury has
ended!
  ISA 14:22 “I will rise up against them,” declares the LORD
Almighty. “I will cut off from Babylon her name and survivors, her
offspring and descendants,” declares the LORD.
  ISA 21:9 Look, here comes a man in a chariot with a team of
horses. And he gives back the answer: ‘Babylon has fallen, has
fallen! All the images of its gods lie shattered on the ground!'”
  ISA 23:13 Look at the land of the Babylonians, this people that
is now of no account! The Assyrians have made it a place for desert
creatures; they raised up their siege towers, they stripped its
fortresses bare and turned it into a ruin.
  ISA 39:1 At that time Merodach-Baladan son of Baladan king of
Babylon sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of
his illness and recovery.
  ISA 39:3 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and
asked, “What did those men say, and where did they come from?”
“From a distant land,” Hezekiah replied. “They came to me from
Babylon.”
  ISA 39:6 The time will surely come when everything in your
palace, and all that your fathers have stored up until this day,
will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the
LORD.
  ISA 39:7 And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood
who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become
eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
  ISA 43:14 This is what the LORD says–your Redeemer, the Holy
One of Israel: “For your sake I will send to Babylon and bring down
as fugitives all the Babylonians, in the ships in which they took
pride.
  ISA 47:1 “Go down, sit in the dust, Virgin Daughter of Babylon;
sit on the ground without a throne, Daughter of the Babylonians. No
more will you be called tender or delicate.
  ISA 47:5 “Sit in silence, go into darkness, Daughter of the
Babylonians; no more will you be called queen of kingdoms.
  ISA 48:14 “Come together, all of you, and listen: Which of the
idols has foretold these things? The LORD’S chosen ally will carry
out his purpose against Babylon; his arm will be against the
Babylonians.
  ISA 48:20 Leave Babylon, flee from the Babylonians! Announce
this with shouts of joy and proclaim it. Send it out to the ends of
the earth; say, “The LORD has redeemed his servant Jacob.”
  JER 20:4 For this is what the LORD says: ‘I will make you a
terror to yourself and to all your friends; with your own eyes you
will see them fall by the sword of their enemies. I will hand all
Judah over to the king of Babylon, who will carry them away to
Babylon or put them to the sword.
  JER 20:5 I will hand over to their enemies all the wealth of
this city–all its products, all its valuables and all the
treasures of the kings of Judah. They will take it away as plunder
and carry it off to Babylon.
  JER 20:6 And you, Pashhur, and all who live in your house will
go into exile to Babylon. There you will die and be buried, you and
all your friends to whom you have prophesied lies.'”

  JER 21:2 “Inquire now of the LORD for us because Nebuchadnezzar
king of Babylon is attacking us. Perhaps the LORD will perform
wonders for us as in times past so that he will withdraw from us.”
  JER 21:4 ‘This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I am
about to turn against you the weapons of war that are in your
hands, which you are using to fight the king of Babylon and the
Babylonians who are outside the wall besieging you. And I will
gather them inside this city.
  JER 21:7 After that, declares the LORD, I will hand over
Zedekiah king of Judah, his officials and the people in this city
who survive the plague, sword and famine, to Nebuchadnezzar king of
Babylon and to their enemies who seek their lives. He will put them
to the sword; he will show them no mercy or pity or compassion.’
  JER 21:9 Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword,
famine or plague. But whoever goes out and surrenders to the
Babylonians who are besieging you will live; he will escape with
his life.
  JER 21:10 I have determined to do this city harm and not good,
declares the LORD. It will be given into the hands of the king of
Babylon, and he will destroy it with fire.’
  JER 22:25 I will hand you over to those who seek your life,
those you fear–to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and to the
Babylonians.
  JER 24:1 After Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and the
officials, the craftsmen and the artisans of Judah were carried
into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar king of
Babylon, the LORD showed me two baskets of figs placed in front of
the temple of the LORD.
  JER 24:5 “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like
these good figs, I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I
sent away from this place to the land of the Babylonians.
  JER 25:1 The word came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of
Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah,
which was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
  JER 25:9 I will summon all the peoples of the north and my
servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon,” declares the LORD, “and I
will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against
all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy them and
make them an object of horror and scorn, and an everlasting ruin.
  JER 25:11 This whole country will become a desolate wasteland,
and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
  JER 25:12 “But when the seventy years are fulfilled, I will
punish the king of Babylon and his nation, the land of the
Babylonians, for their guilt,” declares the LORD, “and will make it
desolate forever.
  JER 27:6 Now I will hand all your countries over to my servant
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; I will make even the wild animals
subject to him.
  JER 27:8 “‘ “If, however, any nation or kingdom will not serve
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon or bow its neck under his yoke, I
will punish that nation with the sword, famine and plague, declares
the LORD, until I destroy it by his hand.
  JER 27:9 So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your
interpreters of dreams, your mediums or your sorcerers who tell
you, ‘You will not serve the king of Babylon.’
  JER 27:11 But if any nation will bow its neck under the yoke of
the king of Babylon and serve him, I will let that nation remain in
its own land to till it and to live there, declares the LORD.” ‘”
  JER 27:12 I gave the same message to Zedekiah king of Judah. I
said, “Bow your neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon; serve
him and his people, and you will live.
  JER 27:13 Why will you and your people die by the sword, famine
and plague with which the LORD has threatened any nation that will
not serve the king of Babylon?
  JER 27:14 Do not listen to the words of the prophets who say to
you, ‘You will not serve the king of Babylon,’ for they are
prophesying lies to you.
  JER 27:16 Then I said to the priests and all these people, “This
is what the LORD says: Do not listen to the prophets who say, ‘Very
soon now the articles from the LORD’S house will be brought back
from Babylon.’ They are prophesying lies to you.
  JER 27:17 Do not listen to them. Serve the king of Babylon, and
you will live. Why should this city become a ruin?
  JER 27:18 If they are prophets and have the word of the LORD,
let them plead with the LORD Almighty that the furnishings
remaining in the house of the LORD and in the palace of the king of
Judah and in Jerusalem not be taken to Babylon.
  JER 27:20 which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take away
when he carried Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah into
exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, along with all the nobles of Judah
and Jerusalem–
  JER 27:22 ‘They will be taken to Babylon and there they will
remain until the day I come for them,’ declares the LORD. ‘Then I
will bring them back and restore them to this place.'”
  JER 28:2 “This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel,
says: ‘I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.
  JER 28:3 Within two years I will bring back to this place all
the articles of the LORD’S house that Nebuchadnezzar king of
Babylon removed from here and took to Babylon.
  JER 28:4 I will also bring back to this place Jehoiachin son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah and all the other exiles from Judah who
went to Babylon,’ declares the LORD, ‘for I will break the yoke of
the king of Babylon.'”
  JER 28:6 He said, “Amen! May the LORD do so! May the LORD
fulfill the words you have prophesied by bringing the articles of
the LORD’S house and all the exiles back to this place from
Babylon.
  JER 28:11 and he said before all the people, “This is what the
LORD says: ‘In the same way will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar
king of Babylon off the neck of all the nations within two years.'”
At this, the prophet Jeremiah went on his way.
  JER 28:14 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel,
says: I will put an iron yoke on the necks of all these nations to
make them serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will serve
him. I will even give him control over the wild animals.'”
  JER 29:1 This is the text of the letter that the prophet
Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the surviving elders among the
exiles and to the priests, the prophets and all the other people
Nebuchadnezzar had carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.
  JER 29:3 He entrusted the letter to Elasah son of Shaphan and to
Gemariah son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to King
Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. It said:
  JER 29:4 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says
to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon:
  JER 29:10 This is what the LORD says: “When seventy years are
completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious
promise to bring you back to this place.
  JER 29:15 You may say, “The LORD has raised up prophets for us
in Babylon,”
  JER 29:20 Therefore, hear the word of the LORD, all you exiles
whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.
  JER 29:21 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel,
says about Ahab son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who
are prophesying lies to you in my name: “I will hand them over to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will put them to death
before your very eyes.
  JER 29:22 Because of them, all the exiles from Judah who are in
Babylon will use this curse: ‘The LORD treat you like Zedekiah and
Ahab, whom the king of Babylon burned in the fire.’
  JER 29:28 He has sent this message to us in Babylon: It will be
a long time. Therefore build houses and settle down; plant gardens
and eat what they produce.'”
  JER 32:2 The army of the king of Babylon was then besieging
Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was confined in the courtyard
of the guard in the royal palace of Judah.
  JER 32:3 Now Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him there,
saying, “Why do you prophesy as you do? You say, ‘This is what the
LORD says: I am about to hand this city over to the king of
Babylon, and he will capture it.
  JER 32:4 Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape out of the hands
of the Babylonians but will certainly be handed over to the king of
Babylon, and will speak with him face to face and see him with his
own eyes.
  JER 32:5 He will take Zedekiah to Babylon, where he will remain
until I deal with him, declares the LORD. If you fight against the
Babylonians, you will not succeed.'”
  JER 32:24 “See how the siege ramps are built up to take the
city. Because of the sword, famine and plague, the city will be
handed over to the Babylonians who are attacking it. What you said
has happened, as you now see.
  JER 32:25 And though the city will be handed over to the
Babylonians, you, O Sovereign LORD, say to me, ‘Buy the field with
silver and have the transaction witnessed.'”
  JER 32:28 Therefore, this is what the LORD says: I am about to
hand this city over to the Babylonians and to Nebuchadnezzar king
of Babylon, who will capture it.
  JER 32:29 The Babylonians who are attacking this city will come
in and set it on fire; they will burn it down, along with the
houses where the people provoked me to anger by burning incense on
the roofs to Baal and by pouring out drink offerings to other gods.
  JER 32:36 “You are saying about this city, ‘By the sword, famine
and plague it will be handed over to the king of Babylon’; but this
is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says:
  JER 32:43 Once more fields will be bought in this land of which
you say, ‘It is a desolate waste, without men or animals, for it
has been handed over to the Babylonians.’
  JER 33:5 in the fight with the Babylonians: ‘They will be filled
with the dead bodies of the men I will slay in my anger and wrath.
I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness.
  JER 34:1 While Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army
and all the kingdoms and peoples in the empire he ruled were
fighting against Jerusalem and all its surrounding towns, this word
came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
  JER 34:2 “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Go to
Zedekiah king of Judah and tell him, ‘This is what the LORD says:
I am about to hand this city over to the king of Babylon, and he
will burn it down.
  JER 34:3 You will not escape from his grasp but will surely be
captured and handed over to him. You will see the king of Babylon
with your own eyes, and he will speak with you face to face. And
you will go to Babylon.
  JER 34:7 while the army of the king of Babylon was fighting
against Jerusalem and the other cities of Judah that were still
holding out–Lachish and Azekah. These were the only fortified
cities left in Judah.
  JER 34:21 “I will hand Zedekiah king of Judah and his officials
over to their enemies who seek their lives, to the army of the king
of Babylon, which has withdrawn from you.
  JER 35:11 But when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon invaded this
land, we said, ‘Come, we must go to Jerusalem to escape the
Babylonian and Aramean armies.’ So we have remained in Jerusalem.”
  JER 36:29 Also tell Jehoiakim king of Judah, ‘This is what the
LORD says: You burned that scroll and said, “Why did you write on
it that the king of Babylon would certainly come and destroy this
land and cut off both men and animals from it?”
  JER 37:1 Zedekiah son of Josiah was made king of Judah by
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; he reigned in place of Jehoiachin
son of Jehoiakim.
  JER 37:5 Pharaoh’s army had marched out of Egypt, and when the
Babylonians who were besieging Jerusalem heard the report about
them, they withdrew from Jerusalem.
  JER 37:8 Then the Babylonians will return and attack this city;
they will capture it and burn it down.’
  JER 37:9 “This is what the LORD says: Do not deceive yourselves,
thinking, ‘The Babylonians will surely leave us.’ They will not!
  JER 37:10 Even if you were to defeat the entire Babylonian army
that is attacking you and only wounded men were left in their
tents, they would come out and burn this city down.”
  JER 37:11 After the Babylonian army had withdrawn from Jerusalem
because of Pharaoh’s army,
  JER 37:13 But when he reached the Benjamin Gate, the captain of
the guard, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, the son of
Hananiah, arrested him and said, “You are deserting to the
Babylonians!”
  JER 37:14 “That’s not true!” Jeremiah said. “I am not deserting
to the Babylonians.” But Irijah would not listen to him; instead,
he arrested Jeremiah and brought him to the officials.
  JER 37:17 Then King Zedekiah sent for him and had him brought to
the palace, where he asked him privately, “Is there any word from
the LORD?” “Yes,” Jeremiah replied, “you will be handed over to the
king of Babylon.”
  JER 37:19 Where are your prophets who prophesied to you, ‘The
king of Babylon will not attack you or this land’?
  JER 38:2 “This is what the LORD says: ‘Whoever stays in this
city will die by the sword, famine or plague, but whoever goes over
to the Babylonians will live. He will escape with his life; he will
live.’
  JER 38:3 And this is what the LORD says: ‘This city will
certainly be handed over to the army of the king of Babylon, who
will capture it.'”
  JER 38:17 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “This is what the LORD
God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you surrender to the
officers of the king of Babylon, your life will be spared and this
city will not be burned down; you and your family will live.
  JER 38:18 But if you will not surrender to the officers of the
king of Babylon, this city will be handed over to the Babylonians
and they will burn it down; you yourself will not escape from their
hands.'”
  JER 38:19 King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “I am afraid of the
Jews who have gone over to the Babylonians, for the Babylonians may
hand me over to them and they will mistreat me.”
  JER 38:22 All the women left in the palace of the king of Judah
will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon. Those
women will say to you: “‘They misled you and overcame you–those
trusted friends of yours. Your feet are sunk in the mud; your
friends have deserted you.’
  JER 38:23 “All your wives and children will be brought out to
the Babylonians. You yourself will not escape from their hands but
will be captured by the king of Babylon; and this city will be
burned down.”
  JER 39:1 This is how Jerusalem was taken:
In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his
whole army and laid siege to it.
  JER 39:3 Then all the officials of the king of Babylon came and
took seats in the Middle Gate: Nergal-Sharezer of Samgar, Nebo-
Sarsekim a chief officer, Nergal-Sharezer a high official and all
the other officials of the king of Babylon.
  JER 39:5 But the Babylonian army pursued them and overtook
Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. They captured him and took him
to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of Hamath,
where he pronounced sentence on him.
  JER 39:6 There at Riblah the king of Babylon slaughtered the
sons of Zedekiah before his eyes and also killed all the nobles of
Judah.
  JER 39:7 Then he put out Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him with
bronze shackles to take him to Babylon.
  JER 39:8 The Babylonians set fire to the royal palace and the
houses of the people and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.
  JER 39:9 Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard carried
into exile to Babylon the people who remained in the city, along
with those who had gone over to him, and the rest of the people.

  JER 39:11 Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had given these
orders about Jeremiah through Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial

  JER 39:13 So Nebuzaradan the commander of the guard, Nebushazban
a chief officer, Nergal-Sharezer a high official and all the other
officers of the king of Babylon
  JER 40:1 The word came to Jeremiah from the LORD after
Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard had released him at
Ramah. He had found Jeremiah bound in chains among all the captives
from Jerusalem and Judah who were being carried into exile to
Babylon.
  JER 40:4 But today I am freeing you from the chains on your
wrists. Come with me to Babylon, if you like, and I will look after
you; but if you do not want to, then don’t come. Look, the whole
country lies before you; go wherever you please.”
  JER 40:5 However, before Jeremiah turned to go, Nebuzaradan
added, “Go back to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom
the king of Babylon has appointed over the towns of Judah, and live
with him among the people, or go anywhere else you please.” Then
the commander gave him provisions and a present and let him go.
  JER 40:7 When all the army officers and their men who were still
in the open country heard that the king of Babylon had appointed
Gedaliah son of Ahikam as governor over the land and had put him in
charge of the men, women and children who were the poorest in the
land and who had not been carried into exile to Babylon,
  JER 40:9 Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, took an
oath to reassure them and their men. “Do not be afraid to serve the
Babylonians,” he said. “Settle down in the land and serve the king
of Babylon, and it will go well with you.
  JER 40:10 I myself will stay at Mizpah to represent you before
the Babylonians who come to us, but you are to harvest the wine,
summer fruit and oil, and put them in your storage jars, and live
in the towns you have taken over.”
  JER 40:11 When all the Jews in Moab, Ammon, Edom and all the
other countries heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant
in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of
Shaphan, as governor over them,
  JER 41:2 Ishmael son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with
him got up and struck down Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of
Shaphan, with the sword, killing the one whom the king of Babylon
had appointed as governor over the land.
  JER 41:3 Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with Gedaliah
at Mizpah, as well as the Babylonian soldiers who were there.
  JER 41:18 to escape the Babylonians. They were afraid of them
because Ishmael son of Nethaniah had killed Gedaliah son of Ahikam,
whom the king of Babylon had appointed as governor over the land.
  JER 42:11 Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you now
fear. Do not be afraid of him, declares the LORD, for I am with you
and will save you and deliver you from his hands.
  JER 43:3 But Baruch son of Neriah is inciting you against us to
hand us over to the Babylonians, so they may kill us or carry us
into exile to Babylon.”
  JER 43:10 Then say to them, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty, the
God of Israel, says: I will send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar king
of Babylon, and I will set his throne over these stones I have
buried here; he will spread his royal canopy above them.
  JER 44:30 This is what the LORD says: ‘I am going to hand
Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt over to his enemies who seek his life,
just as I handed Zedekiah king of Judah over to Nebuchadnezzar king
of Babylon, the enemy who was seeking his life.'”
  JER 46:2 Concerning Egypt: This is the message against the army
of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on
the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth
year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:
  JER 46:13 This is the message the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the
prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to
attack Egypt:
  JER 46:26 I will hand them over to those who seek their lives,
to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his officers. Later, however,
Egypt will be inhabited as in times past,” declares the LORD.
  JER 49:28 Concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked: This is what the LORD
says: “Arise, and attack Kedar and destroy the people of the East.
  JER 49:30 “Flee quickly away! Stay in deep caves, you who live
in Hazor,” declares the LORD. “Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has
plotted against you; he has devised a plan against you.
  JER 50:1 This is the word the LORD spoke through Jeremiah the
prophet concerning Babylon and the land of the Babylonians:
  JER 50:2 “Announce and proclaim among the nations, lift up a
banner and proclaim it; keep nothing back, but say, ‘Babylon will
be captured; Bel will be put to shame, Marduk filled with terror.
Her images will be put to shame and her idols filled with terror.’
  JER 50:8 “Flee out of Babylon; leave the land of the
Babylonians, and be like the goats that lead the flock.
  JER 50:9 For I will stir up and bring against Babylon an
alliance of great nations from the land of the north. They will
take up their positions against her, and from the north she will be
captured. Their arrows will be like skilled warriors who do not
return empty-handed.
  JER 50:10 So Babylonia will be plundered; all who plunder her
will have their fill,” declares the LORD.
  JER 50:13 Because of the LORD’S anger she will not be inhabited
but will be completely desolate. All who pass Babylon will be
horrified and scoff because of all her wounds.
  JER 50:14 “Take up your positions around Babylon, all you who
draw the bow. Shoot at her! Spare no arrows, for she has sinned
against the LORD.
  JER 50:16 Cut off from Babylon the sower, and the reaper with
his sickle at harvest. Because of the sword of the oppressor let
everyone return to his own people, let everyone flee to his own
land.
  JER 50:17 “Israel is a scattered flock that lions have chased
away. The first to devour him was the king of Assyria; the last to
crush his bones was Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.”

Israel, says: “I will punish the king of Babylon and his land as I
punished the king of Assyria.

the Holy One of Israel.
  JER 50:34 Yet their Redeemer is strong; the LORD Almighty is his
name. He will vigorously defend their cause so that he may bring
rest to their land, but unrest to those who live in Babylon.
  JER 50:35 “A sword against the Babylonians!” declares the LORD–
“against those who live in Babylon and against her officials and
wise men!
  JER 50:42 They are armed with bows and spears; they are cruel
and without mercy. They sound like the roaring sea as they ride on
their horses; they come like men in battle formation to attack you,
O Daughter of Babylon.
  JER 50:43 The king of Babylon has heard reports about them, and
his hands hang limp. Anguish has gripped him, pain like that of a
woman in labor.
  JER 50:44 Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets to a rich
pastureland, I will chase Babylon from its land in an instant. Who
is the chosen one I will appoint for this? Who is like me and who
can challenge me? And what shepherd can stand against me?”
  JER 50:45 Therefore, hear what the LORD has planned against
Babylon, what he has purposed against the land of the Babylonians:
The young of the flock will be dragged away; he will completely
destroy their pasture because of them.
  JER 50:46 At the sound of Babylon’s capture the earth will
tremble; its cry will resound among the nations.
  JER 51:1 This is what the LORD says: “See, I will stir up the
spirit of a destroyer against Babylon and the people of Leb Kamai.
  JER 51:2 I will send foreigners to Babylon to winnow her and to
devastate her land; they will oppose her on every side in the day
of her disaster.
  JER 51:4 They will fall down slain in Babylon, fatally wounded
in her streets.
  JER 51:6 “Flee from Babylon! Run for your lives! Do not be
destroyed because of her sins. It is time for the LORD’S vengeance;
he will pay her what she deserves.

whole earth drunk. The nations drank her wine; therefore they have
now gone mad.

destroy Babylon. The LORD will take vengeance, vengeance for his

against Babylon stand–to lay waste the land of Babylon so that no

in their strongholds. Their strength is exhausted; they have become
like women. Her dwellings are set on fire; the bars of her gates
are broken.
  JER 51:31 One courier follows another and messenger follows
messenger to announce to the king of Babylon that his entire city
is captured,
  JER 51:33 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel,
says: “The Daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the
time it is trampled; the time to harvest her will soon come.”
  JER 51:34 “Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has devoured us, he
has thrown us into confusion, he has made us an empty jar. Like a
serpent he has swallowed us and filled his stomach with our
delicacies, and then has spewed us out.
  JER 51:35 May the violence done to our flesh be upon Babylon,”
say the inhabitants of Zion. “May our blood be on those who live in
Babylonia,” says Jerusalem.
  JER 51:37 Babylon will be a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals,
an object of horror and scorn, a place where no one lives.
  JER 51:41 “How Sheshach will be captured, the boast of the whole
earth seized! What a horror Babylon will be among the nations!

cover her.

shout for joy over Babylon, for out of the north destroyers will
attack her,” declares the LORD.
  JER 51:49 “Babylon must fall because of Israel’s slain, just as
the slain in all the earth have fallen because of Babylon.

lofty stronghold, I will send destroyers against her,” declares the

  JER 51:59 This is the message Jeremiah gave to the staff officer
Seraiah son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon
with Zedekiah king of Judah in the fourth year of his reign.
  JER 51:60 Jeremiah had written on a scroll about all the
disasters that would come upon Babylon–all that had been recorded
concerning Babylon.
  JER 51:61 He said to Seraiah, “When you get to Babylon, see that
you read all these words aloud.
  JER 51:64 Then say, ‘So will Babylon sink to rise no more
because of the disaster I will bring upon her. And her people will
fall.'” The words of Jeremiah end here.
  JER 52:3 It was because of the LORD’S anger that all this
happened to Jerusalem and Judah, and in the end he thrust them from
his presence. Now Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
  JER 52:4 So in the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth
day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched
against Jerusalem with his whole army. They camped outside the city
and built siege works all around it.
  JER 52:7 Then the city wall was broken through, and the whole
army fled. They left the city at night through the gate between the
two walls near the king’s garden, though the Babylonians were
surrounding the city. They fled toward the Arabah,
  JER 52:8 but the Babylonian army pursued King Zedekiah and
overtook him in the plains of Jericho. All his soldiers were
separated from him and scattered,
  JER 52:9 and he was captured. He was taken to the king of
Babylon at Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced
sentence on him.
  JER 52:10 There at Riblah the king of Babylon slaughtered the
sons of Zedekiah before his eyes; he also killed all the officials
of Judah.
  JER 52:11 Then he put out Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him with bronze
shackles and took him to Babylon, where he put him in prison till
the day of his death.
  JER 52:12 On the tenth day of the fifth month, in the nineteenth
year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan commander of
the imperial guard, who served the king of Babylon, came to
Jerusalem.
  JER 52:14 The whole Babylonian army under the commander of the
imperial guard broke down all the walls around Jerusalem.
  JER 52:15 Nebuzaradan the commander of the guard carried into
exile some of the poorest people and those who remained in the
city, along with the rest of the craftsmen and those who had gone
over to the king of Babylon.

movable stands and the bronze Sea that were at the temple of the
LORD and they carried all the bronze to Babylon.

has sent to ridicule the living God, and that he will rebuke him
for the words the LORD your God has heard. Therefore pray for the
remnant that still survives.”
  2KI 19:6 Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master, ‘This is what

  JER 43:10 Then say to them, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty, the
God of Israel, says: I will send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar king
of Babylon, and I will set his throne over these stones I have
buried here; he will spread his royal canopy above them.
  JER 44:30 This is what the LORD says: ‘I am going to hand
Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt over to his enemies who seek his life,
just as I handed Zedekiah king of Judah over to Nebuchadnezzar king
of Babylon, the enemy who was seeking his life.'”
  JER 46:2 Concerning Egypt: This is the message against the army
of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on
the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth
year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:
  JER 46:13 This is the message the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the
prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to
attack Egypt:
  JER 46:26 I will hand them over to those who seek their lives,
to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his officers. Later, however,
Egypt will be inhabited as in times past,” declares the LORD.
  JER 49:28 Concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked: This is what the LORD
says: “Arise, and attack Kedar and destroy the people of the East.
  JER 49:30 “Flee quickly away! Stay in deep caves, you who live
in Hazor,” declares the LORD. “Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has
plotted against you; he has devised a plan against you.
  JER 50:17 “Israel is a scattered flock that lions have chased
away. The first to devour him was the king of Assyria; the last to
crush his bones was Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.”
  JER 51:34 “Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has devoured us, he
has thrown us into confusion, he has made us an empty jar. Like a
serpent he has swallowed us and filled his stomach with our
delicacies, and then has spewed us out.
  JER 52:4 So in the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth
day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched
against Jerusalem with his whole army. They camped outside the city
and built siege works all around it.
  JER 52:12 On the tenth day of the fifth month, in the nineteenth
year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan commander of
the imperial guard, who served the king of Babylon, came to
Jerusalem.
  JER 52:28 This is the number of the people Nebuchadnezzar
carried into exile: in the seventh year, 3,023 Jews;
  EZE 26:7 “For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: From the
north I am going to bring against Tyre Nebuchadnezzar king of

  DAN 1:1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of
Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and
besieged it.
  DAN 1:18 At the end of the time set by the king to bring them
in, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar.

on your bed are these:
  DAN 2:46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell prostrate before Daniel
and paid him honor and ordered that an offering and incense be
presented to him.
  DAN 3:1 King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, ninety feet
high and nine feet wide, and set it up on the plain of Dura in the
province of Babylon.
  DAN 3:3 So the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers,
treasurers, judges, magistrates and all the other provincial
officials assembled for the dedication of the image that King
Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before it.

zither, lyre, harp, pipes and all kinds of music, you must fall
down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set
up.
  DAN 3:7 Therefore, as soon as they heard the sound of the horn,
flute, zither, lyre, harp and all kinds of music, all the peoples,
nations and men of every language fell down and worshiped the image
of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
  DAN 3:9 They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever!
  DAN 3:13 Furious with rage, Nebuchadnezzar summoned Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king,
  DAN 3:14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the
image of gold I have set up?
  DAN 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O
Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in
this matter.
  DAN 3:19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach
and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the
furnace heated seven times hotter than usual
  DAN 3:24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in
amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we
tied up and threw into the fire?” They replied, “Certainly, O
king.”
  DAN 3:26 Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the
blazing furnace and shouted, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego,
servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!” So Shadrach,
Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire,
  DAN 3:28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued
his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and
were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship
any god except their own God.
  DAN 4:1 King Nebuchadnezzar, To the peoples, nations and men of
every language, who live in all the world: May you prosper greatly!
  DAN 4:4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at home in my palace, contented
and prosperous.
  DAN 4:18 “This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, had.
Now, Belteshazzar, tell me what it means, for none of the wise men
in my kingdom can interpret it for me. But you can, because the
spirit of the holy gods is in you.”
  DAN 4:28 All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar.
  DAN 4:31 The words were still on his lips when a voice came from
heaven, “This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your
royal authority has been taken from you.
  DAN 4:33 Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was
fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like
cattle. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair
grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of
a bird.
  DAN 4:34 At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my
eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the
Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His
dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from
generation to generation.
  DAN 4:37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the
King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his
ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.
  DAN 5:2 While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders
to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his
father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and
his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink from them.
  DAN 5:11 There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of
the holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to
have insight and intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods.
King Nebuchadnezzar your father–your father the king, I say–
appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and
diviners.
  DAN 5:18 “O king, the Most High God gave your father
Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty and greatness and glory and splendor.
