Prophecies of Christ from the Old Testment

Some documents have been released lately stating that Jesus
Christ is not the messiah.  The last one I read called
“Smokin’ Gun” was the worst.  I have never seen the Bible
so misquoted, so grotesquely out of context.  Give me a
break!

This following list is a compilation of *some* of the
Messianic Prophesies (prophesies concerning who the Messiah
would be) in the Old Testament.

When you read these verses, *please* read them in context.
That means:  consider the text around the verse you are
looking up, or even the whole chapter.  If your really
ambitious read the entire book.  By doing this you will
better understand what is being conveyed by the writer.

There are a couple of basic things you need to remember when
reading the Bible.  They are as follows:

1.  The Bible was not written in English originally.  (Yes
it’s hard to believe, but Jesus never said the words “Thee”,
or “Thou” or “Thy”!)  The original documents were written,
primarily, in Hebrew and Greek.  That means what we have to
read is only a translation.  Since (I think I can safely
assume) man is not perfect, the translations will also be a
step away from perfect.  Most churches will hold to the fact
that the original text was *God inspired*  but the Bible we
have today may contain some errors.  (God inspired means:
God told the writer what to write, and ensured that the
information was recorded properly and without flaw.)  You
may ask yourself, “How do I know if what I am reading is
correct?”  That’s easy.  Don’t read one translation.  Read
two or three.  Different wording of the same information
will help narrow down exactly what the writer intended you
to hear.  Most of all read **in context**!!!!!

2.  Try to read translation that come from the original
text.  Many translations of the Bible are simply paraphrases
of another English version.  A translation, of a translation
can cause some problems.  It kind of like copying cassette
tapes.  The first copy doesn’t sound so bad, but make a copy
of the copy and it gets a little distorted.  Keep making
copies of copies and eventually you won’t even be able to
make out what was on the original tape.  By using
translation that are compiled from the original languages
you will ensure that you are getting the best information.
Not distorted by the multiple copies.  Which version come
from the original text?  Well the big boys (most used
translations) are:  King James Version (KJV),
                    Revised Standard Version (RSV)
                    New International Version (NIV)
There are many other as well.  Again I emphasize reading more
than one translation.  If you have a paraphrase, like the
Living Bible that’s OK.  Those Bibles can really help the
novice to understand some of the more difficult language.
But be sure to read something closer to the original stuff
too.

Lastly, this document was not written to cause anyone doubt
in what is recorded in there favorite version of the Bible.
Most of the mistakes, or error I am speaking of are over
Greek, or Hebrew words that are difficult to understand, or
so seldom used in the Bible that it is difficult (even for
the people who understand Greek and Hebrew) understand what
the word means.  These vague words are never found in
information that is important to salvation.  They are
generally in areas that are less important.  If you want to
be saved believe this !!!***and only this***!!!  “God so
loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him should not parish but have
everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the
world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him
might be saved.”  John 3:16-17  If you believe that you are
headed for heaven!   The rest of the stuff is just showing
us how much God loves us, and how we can better serve Him
because He loves us.

See you in heaven if not before,

your friend in Christ,

Norm Groleau
