“He that is not with me is against me: and that gathereth not with me scattereth.”
Luke 11: 23 King James Version
Many of us have heard this song “I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back. Though no one join me, still I will follow. Though no one join me, still I will follow. Though no one join me, still I will follow, no turning back, no turning back”. This is a beautiful love song to Jesus and should come from our hearts.
This is one of my favorite songs and I have been singing it all morning. The thought came to me “Are we really following Him without turning back or do we retreat in defeat when satan and the world attack us with poisonous barbs of criticism and sarcasm and no one joins us”? Are we willing to keep preaching, singing, writing and encouraging even when people criticize and condemn us? Are we depending on others for our happiness? If so, we are in serious trouble. Only Jesus can give us real happiness, real joy, and a lasting peace.
I read in a book that we make our own happiness. That is not a true statement. Every good and perfect gift that we have comes from our loving Father. (James 1: 17) We can choose however to place ourselves in situations that will bring happiness or bring sorrow. God does not pull our and make us do anything as if we are His puppets. He gives us the choice to follow Him or follow satan and the world. If we deliberately go places that we know bring shame to Him, or if we watch movies that we would not watch with Him sitting next to us, then we have made the choice to follow satan instead of Him. Have you decided to follow Jesus even if you have to do it alone?
